A Unified Minnesota Community Based Youth Baseball

The COVID-19 pandemic has turned most of 2020, as a year that we all want to put in the rear-view mirror. As this fluid situation continues to progress, we all face many unknowns over the course of the next 9-12 months. This situation also rings true in Minnesota community-based youth baseball programming. The recently formed collaboration between “worthy rivals”, Minnesota Youth Athletic Services Inc., better known as Gopher State Baseball - MYAS, and Metro Baseball League/Minnesota Baseball Tournaments, felt it was in the best interest of their stakeholders to share a unified voice for youth baseball throughout the state of Minnesota, in April of this year.

These organizations are solely responsible for administering the largest community-based youth baseball leagues and the biggest state tournaments on the ball diamond throughout the state of Minnesota, every spring/summer for the past two + decades. This joint effort has also allowed MBL/MBT and Gopher to collaborate with the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association (MSHSBA), in order to continue to grow the game through community-based youth baseball programming for the long term throughout the state of Minnesota. This collaboration is excited to continue to focus on enhancing the game of baseball in Minnesota, while always focusing the programming, education, training, and resources back to the youth baseball organizations in each community.

Ultimately, the intention is for those youth players to compete in high school baseball where they reside or attend school. The collaboration of Gopher State, MBL/MBT and the MSHSBA, allows all levels of youth baseball to be unified to strengthen community-based programming, in a positive way. With great optimism, we want to reassure the Minnesota youth baseball community, that our individual entities, and combined goals, are making plans for, and look forward to, a successful 2021 high school and youth baseball season.
